The devil in the details

I know that this is an unusual theory, but I do believe that sleep-deprivation has a lot to do with some of the edginess in Washington today.

Bill Clinton

Sounds like the former leader of the free world is talking about something mundane and rather random, right (video from the Daily show with Jon Stewart)? There is something to be said though for taking account of the quotidian and its impact on what we consider important, and Clinton is right that sleep-deprivation makes people irritable and saps their performance. Perhaps his next project can be to introduce the supposedly mundane into the discourse.

Jon Stewart: President Bill Clinton’s prescription for the 21st century America? Giving through charity, and I believe if I may say, and I am paraphrasing here: naps. And both

Bill Clinton: –both will make you happy.

Love it!! I know it’s hard with all we do, but don’t skimp on sleep!

Would you believe that circa 1970 it was predicted that work hours would shrink, and there were feature articles aplenty about the “problem” of too much leisure time!

    Ah, well…

Really? That’s interesting. I wonder what changed between the 1970s and today that led us to this. At least many workplaces have gotten into flextime and other more accomodating work arrangements over the last 30-years. I predict that workplaces will move to encourage more and more people to tele-commute part or fulltime, as it will solve many problems: (1) traffic (2) office overhead (3) parents’ desire to spend time with families.
